Ethics

Ethics and profits. Hermes currently use alligator and crocodile for their handbags. Unfortunately the suppliers of the skins are not as humane as they should be. Hermes are now looking into their suppliers. Jane Birkin, who the bag is named after wants her name removed from the bag.

Check your numbers

When the numbers simply do not add up. Getting into debt is easy. We can use a store card, take out a loan, use a credit card..... If you are not careful, those decisions will come back and haunt you. Credit cards and loans are good in the right context if the numbers make sense and you have the means and the discipline to pay your debts. If you do not, you are in for a world of hurt.

Actions, Reactions and Consequences.

Tragic roller coaster crash. Somewhere along the line there was an error. This not only caused injury to its guests, but disrupted the park, tarnished its image and affected its profits.

Every action has a reaction and a consequence.

Was the crash avoidable. Was it a human error?  A great article for a classroom debate on external factors and health and safety. Alton Towers.

Success doesn't come easy.

Converse upgrade

Converse shoes are getting an upgrade. There is something to be said about not messing around with a formula that simply works. Nike on the other hand feels that the current Converse shoe (that it owns) needs an upgrade to make it more comfortable to wear. It will also inflate the price tag. It will be interesting to see if the change and price point puts people off or attracts new followers. Only time will tell.

Battle of Obesity.

The battle of obesity. Tesco, the huge supermarket juggernaut has decided to take Ribena off the shelves and replace it with a sugar free version. it claims to be doing its bit to battle obesity. Question. is it the businesses responsibility to battle obesity or the responsibility of each and everyone of us to battle our own obesity?

Minimum wage being raised to $15 an hour

New York is planning to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour for fast food workers who have more than 30 locations.

http://finance.yahoo.com/…/york-set-15-minimum-wage-1900523…

Here is a comment made about the looming rise.
Some basic math: 52 weeks in a year, 40 hours in a standard work week is 2,080 hours in a year. Now multiply 2,080 hours by $15.00 and we get $31,200 a year. So a full time worker on minimum wage would earn $31,200 a year.
That's not a minimum wage, that's a wage someone could live on. It's a living wage. Granted $31,200 will not allow you to live like a king, but the concept is MINIMUM wage, not a living wage. When this topic gets hot, the media invariably drags out a 40-year old father of two that cannot make ends meet on minimum wage. Minimum wage is for people entering the workforce or for jobs that have extremely minimal skill requirements. Minimum wage is not designed to fund a family of four. To pay $31,200 to a teenager that has to be instructed how to use a broom is ridiculous. Paying $31,200 for an employee that says "Welcome to XYZ store" is ridiculous. If you are 40 years old and still earning minimum wage, well maybe that is the best you can do in life, and that's ok. But before you start a family you better have a thought about how to finance that family, and minimum wage isn't it. At no point is anyone entitled to a living wage. Get your butt out there and earn your way up .... and no, it isn't easy.

What are your thoughts?

Thoughts and words!

Thinking outside the box and asking questions

Asking questions, leads to understanding. Questioning how things are being done, leads to innovation. If I understand, I can defend and explain. If I understand, I can innovate.
